Rowner ‘D.I.Y.’ Mural

This First Wessex led project employed Future Jobs Fund workers (18-24 year-olds who have been unemployed for 9 or more months). The brief required that these untrained personnel were able to paint the mural without help from the artist apart from initial instruction. I developed a ‘tessellation’ : a repeatable, interlocking tile, that was to be spray painted in random groups over green, circular ‘islands.’ After a little encouragement and some practice, the workers really got into it, enjoyed the responsibility of making artistic decisions, and did a really good job.

Good job, chaps!
